Our Approach

May Flowers Child and Family Counseling offers comprehensive therapeutic interventions for children and young people.

After an initial evaluation, and using ongoing observation of clients, various techniques will be employed to help clients in their growth and development.

May Flowers couples a mix of techniques with other counseling approaches to support our clients in goal-setting, strategy building, and resilience.

  • Parents will be updated on progress and goals, while honoring the tenants of confidentiality.

  • Whenever possible, techniques and skills that can be reinforced at home will be shared.

  • All of the interventions are used with the intention to support clients in addressing their feelings and emotions while also encouraging goal-setting, strategy building, and resilience.

The following methods of intervention may be used as part of an overall support plan:

  • Play Therapy

Play therapy is to children what counseling is to adults.

In Play Therapy, children and young people interact with intentional materials and participate in various activities that allow them to express and process their feelings, emotions, and concerns in a developmentally appropriate way that is safe and accessible.

  • Art Therapy

Art Therapy utilizes a creative process and empowers clients to use art materials and the discussion of their own creations to better understand and work through various struggles or areas of need.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy supports clients in developing new thinking patterns and identifying unhealthy perspectives in their current thinking.

CBT offers clients support and guidance in learning problem-solving skills and positive coping skills that they can then utilize in various settings outside of the counseling office.

  • Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy

Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy can be a powerful, goal-oriented method of intervention that supports clients in developing readily available coping skills.

The therapist and the client work together to shift focus and mindset toward solutions that will encourage growth and resilience.
